Swindon’s newest estate agent to open office in prime Old Town location

Rich Whatton is a man with a dream. After 20 years working for estate agents in Swindon like Halifax, Strakers and latterly Richard James, he is finally branching out with his own agency, Miles Byron Real Estate. And he is so invested in his new business that he has named it after his two sons. Let’s hear it for Miles and Byron!

Myles Byron the company hit the ground running at the back end of last year and despite launching his new business during a pandemic, Rich has been busy selling a wide selection of mostly high-end properties. Now, with the imminent July opening of his new office at 105 Victoria Road (at the top of the hill just before Bath Road), he is taking things to the next level.

“I have enjoyed my time working for some well-known estate agents, but after two decades in the business it was time to realize my long-held dream and set up my own company,” says Rich. “From the very beginning I have always had my eyes open for a prime location office and the Victoria Road office was the perfect opportunity.”

Despite the advent of internet estate agents with no offices, Rich believes that providing personal service really demands a physical space for people who prefer face-to-face encounters.

“My whole emphasis will be on personal relationships and bespoke service,” he says, “that has always been my passion. To use a cliché, I am definitely a people person!”

“I don’t want to build a conveyor belt where people get lost, I want to be here for people seven days a week, and if that means taking calls on Sunday evenings, I say bring it on! I love my work and more importantly, people invest an enormous amount into buying and selling properties so they need an estate agent who is equally engaged.”

“I have built some great relationships with clients over the last 20 years and it is immensely satisfying when these people now trust me to sell their homes and properties. And though I have great hopes for the Miles Byron brand I never want to get too big; when things get too corporate the danger is that customer service suffers.”

He adds: “Despite the pandemic, it’s an exciting time to be involved in the property market, especially in Swindon where people can get so many of the things that are now in the national conversation, like more space – indoors and outdoors – and at prices that are far more accessible than anywhere else along the M4 corridor. In 2021 it’s all about lifestyle, and Swindon is a great location in that respect.”
