Staycation Staycation Staycation!

Warning – This post WILL give you serious house envy.

Whilst overseas holidays are still very much in the balance, staycations are IT with the self-catering marketing looking to make up for lost ground now that national travel is (currently) safe.

Wiltshire and Gloucestershire have a lot to offer as a destination being served well by great transport links and offering hard to beat scenery, walks, attractions and celebrated dining and hospitality right across the region.

Both counties also have a varied choice of self-catering accommodation to suit all budgets, size of party and needs.

Keen to shout loudly about the area as a holiday destination, Wigwam have had a scan of the self-catering currently on offer and have some top picks to share. We can report you will be spoilt for choice.

Pod Life

Whilst small doesn’t do it for everyone, some like the pared back, fuss free offering of a pod. This gem has a hot tub with a view just a short hop from your lux fit pod. Tormarton is almost home to royalty with Prince Charles just down the road, offering boutique shopping and period hostelries, all with the Cotswold landscape as its backdrop. Take your Hunters whatever the weather. Swimwear optional for this secluded winner.

Don’t miss: a wander around Westonbirt Arboretum for some feel good exercise.

Pretty France

The village of Lacock is owned and maintained by the National Trust, so if a picture-perfect setting is your dream get away, this is it. The Coach House is reminiscent of a villa in Provence, with a pool and an ambling garden with plenty of space for post dinner walks. The village has three pubs, one being the 15th century inn Sign of the Angel, with an excellent foodie reputation. Whilst we can’t guarantee southern France temperatures we can assure you that this corner of Wiltshire is very jolie indeed.

Don’t miss: dinner at Sign of the Angel. Book ahead.

This vast 3 bed is also equipped with a hot-tub, bar and day bed on an Italian styled stonewalled garden of dreams. Yep, this house shouts luxury, and parties! And if the weather fails to impress then the interiors surely will be the most excellent plan B.

Fairy Dreams

For those dreaming of a romantic getaway then this cottage just outside Marlborough is your dream holistay. Its owners say it is ‘thatched with wheat straw and sprinkled with magic…plucked straight from the pages of a book’. The immaculate interiors match their 17th century exteriors too with quirky and charming period features sumptuously dressed.

Don’t miss: wandering the Kennet & Avon. The cottage owners have included a blanket and picnic basket to do just that.
