Say it quietly …. whoop whoop, the kids are finally back at school, it has been a long hot summer, on top of a long old and funny year. Thank goodness for our brilliant teachers.
Anyone who was unlucky enough to have home schooled last year, in my opinion, will know that the juggle was real. I shared little space, creaking broadband width and limited patience, resources and finances with ‘kids’ that take up more space than I do! And they asked me to ‘help’ them with their maths….it didn’t go well. Not even YouTube could help us. As I wrote, thank goodness for our brilliant, brilliant teachers.
A quick bit of ‘research’ at the school gates tells me I am not alone either and that we are rushing to the nearest coffee shops for ‘a quick catch up’ before deep-cleaning the home, re-stocking the cupboards (oh so bare) and hitting those work email inboxes that exploded some time ago.
Needless to say, we all need, and want, a break and especially this year with so few of us being able to get away (away), many of us might be dreaming of the next best thing…a spa day. Less guilt, less drama and less organising than a weekend away. Less expensive too.
Yep, I am totally advocating a few guilt free hours, dressing gown clad, prosecco in hand with the girls, or the boys, because you have undoubtedly earned it.
And your luck is in, as our neighbourhood is home to some excellent spas. Here is the Wigwam pick of the best. And if you thought they were all the same then think again, which might mean that you need to do a bit more research to compare and contrast…
Whatley Manor & Spa, Malmesbury
Set in a Five Star Cotswold country house hotel, the Aquarius Spa at Whatley Manor boasts ‘a place to restore mind and body, to reset and recharge.’ It has an indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pool, salt scrub showers and heated stone recliners, plus if you’ve detoxed fully the 2 Michelin star restaurant may suit you for a re-tox!
Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, Calne
Set within the incredible Capability Brown parkland, Bowood Estate offers something for the entire family as a destination. But keep that on the down low on this occasion!! This spa has an infinity pool and a rock sauna, it is also an award-winning spa with an extensive treatment list and packages list to suit all using delicious sounding organic skincare products. Yum!
Lucknam Park, Chippenham
Well hello Lucknam! Surrounded by walled gardens, manicured lawns is the luxury of the Lucknam rejuvenating spa using the Queen of all spa products, ESPA. The headline that caught my eye was the ‘social lounge with mixology bar’ as did the thermal cabins, experience showers and ice bar. Hold my dressing gown, I may be some time!
Calcot Manor & Spa, Tetbury
‘Relax the mind, soothe the spirit and beautify the body’ says the Calcot Manor Spa website. We won’t need asking twice! The outdoor fireside hot tub, followed by sauna then Elemis treatment sounds like just the gin to my tonic. And it is all set within the idyllic Cotswold countryside too. Try the Mini Sundown Spa for an entry level splash if you are time barred.
De Vere Cotswold Water Park, South Cerney
Water, water everywhere… Nestled alongside the 152 lakes that make up the Cotswold Water Park is the De Vere Cotswold Water Park contemporary hotel with state-of-the-art finishing. Spa 6 is home to a jacuzzi, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pool and a fully equipped gym together with treatment rooms perfect for those just off the lakes perhaps, or those taking it a little slower ;-)
Top tip; don’t rush home!
