A curious, interactive art exhibition opens on Saturday 11th November in an empty shop at The Designer Outlet Centre in Swindon.
Normally in an art gallery there are signs saying, ‘Do not touch the artworks’. Here, however, you’re invited not only to touch but to take part.
Climb into Alyson Minkley’s suspended, cocoonlike installation and add some stitching to its canvas surfaces; become a living sculpture by wearing Lou Baker’s bright, quirky knitted sculptures or wonder as you wander around Juliet Duckworth’s installation with lights and sound…. and make sure you don’t miss Social Knitwork!
The exhibition will be running every Wednesday-Sunday (12pm-6pm) from the 11th to the 26th of November, in Unit 9 at The Designer Outlet Centre (Swindon, SN2 2DY).
Private workshops will be available on weekday mornings (Wednesday-Friday) from 10am-12pm for community and educational groups who would benefit from arts activities.
The events are organised by Social Scaffolding, a collective formed by three emerging artists, Lou Baker, Juliet Duckworth and Alyson Minkley.
Social Scaffolding engages new and diverse audiences with dynamic, socially engaged, interactive and immersive art. They make connections and build community through creativity and conversation, promoting the wellbeing of its participants.
Working as a collective provides artists with opportunities for professional development and mutual support so together they can work more effectively with their audiences.
Social Scaffolding aims for its work to be accessible for all ages and abilities.
Social Scaffolding is able to tour and offer such opportunities for free thanks to National Lottery public funding provided through Arts
Council England. Please email to book and discuss options.
